After summer comes autumn and winter, bringing cooler temperatures and heartier dishes to our plates! With all these changes, our tasting habits change too. The era of rosé is over; it's time for winter wines.
Alsace Wines
When enjoying delicious slow-cooked winter dishes, we tend to rule out white wines and serve only reds, but this is a mistake. Indeed, some full-bodied and generous whites have just as much place at our table. An Alsace Pinot Gris will be perfect with fish served with rice and leek fondue. If you're already celebrating and decide to prepare a few foie gras toasts, we recommend serving a late-harvest wine; it will enhance the dish.
Rhône Valley Wines
At this time of year, we can tolerate higher alcohol levels than those of the wines we drink in the sunshine. The perfect wines for winter are undoubtedly Rhône Valley wines. Châteauneuf du Pape and Crozes Hermitage, generous in flavor, will be ideal with your meats, dishes in sauce, and winter vegetables.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic that needs no introduction. Characteristic of Médoc wines, its earthy aromas also pair wonderfully with our winter dishes. On the menu: beef, holiday roasts, duck and goose, served with lentils or mashed potatoes. Enough to warm up your taste buds!
Chardonnay
Another classic, emblematic of the white wines of Burgundy (Chablis, Pouilly-Fuissé, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet), this is the white wine to always have on hand to brighten up a long winter evening. Rich and creamy, with aromas of vanilla, butter, caramel, and a touch of citrus, it is the ultimate comfort wine. Its little extra? It pairs with a wide range of dishes. White meats such as turkey and chicken, fish such as sea bass, and your favorite shellfish, such as lobster. But that's not all. It also pairs wonderfully with cream- or mushroom-based dishes, as well as your cheeses (Comté, Gruyère). It goes particularly well with fondue, raclette, Mont d'Or, and tartiflette.
Champagne
If you are among those who drink Champagne all year round (like us), you're right. Why relegate Champagne to New Year's Eve? Light and refreshing, it is the most versatile wine when it comes to food. It goes with everything! And if you think Champagne is expensive, know that this is not true of all of it: some small-producer Champagnes are excellent and affordable! Besides, what better way to cure the winter blues than with Champagne bubbles? Fish, seafood, charcuterie, cheese... with Champagne, the choice is yours.
Port
The quintessential Portuguese specialty, rich in flavor and power, Port also charms us with its silky, sweet character. The ideal companion for evenings by the fireplace, to enjoy as an aperitif or with dessert. It will pair perfectly with blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Gorgonzola. It also goes wonderfully with chocolate desserts, crème brûlée, and tarts. And if you have run out of supplies to face the winter, discover the wines in our store to warm yourself up!
